Piano Lessons

"Ms. Sarah is nice, smart and super amazing!"

Kyla, 5th grade flute & piano student

  • You played piano as a kid and wish you had not quit.

  • You want your school-age child to take piano lessons because you've heard there are lots of cognitive and social benefits.

  • Your son or daughter is just really interested in the piano at Grandma's house and is begging for lessons.

  • You play an instrument but don't feel confident to teach music to your own child.

Hey parents!

If so, keep reading!

Sound familiar?...

The piano is a wonderful instrument to begin your musical journey. It is a "picture" of music and anyone can press the keys to make sound - even a toddler!

It's a versatile instrument that can be played solo or accompany other instruments.

It can be played in a rock band or a professional symphony. It can be played at home or busking on the street.

You can play your favorite showtunes, get funky with the latest pop/rock styles, or be serious with classical music.

Beginning to play the piano at any age has all kinds of cognitive and social-emotional benefits, too!
With all that appeal,
who wouldn't want to learn the piano?!
Studies show...

So what makes Sarah's Studio the perfect place to get started on the piano?

Ms. Sarah uses a creative mix of focused learning at the piano as well as FUN games & off-bench activities to keep young beginners engaged.
Everyone receive individualized 1-on-1 attention for their full lesson. But we do hold group classes throughout the year in addition to lessons.
I allow students to self-guide certain aspects of our lessons, selecting music they want to learn, and setting the pace that works for them. Don't worry - we learn ALL the important stuff, but lessons will be tailored to the specific needs and tastes of each player.
Parents are welcome to observe lessons any time, so they are better able to guide home practice. Ms. Sarah will offer plenty of help to address specific situations or difficulties.
In addition to Music Lab (see more below!), we use the iPad in regular lesson time and at home to listen to examples, play along with backing tracks, and record/photograph our playing as a practice tool.

1. Activity & play

2. Individual attention

3. Practice support

4. Student-centered

5. Technology

"Ms. Sarah is patient, encouraging and positive. She helps me get a good start on a piece and provides details to polish it that I wouldn’t have necessarily considered. I enjoy performing for one another at group classes. Overall, I’ve grown more confident in my playing and have really grown to love playing piano."

- Abigail, 12th grade piano student

How do I know if my child is ready for piano lessons?

Good question. Check out my answer to this and many other frequently asked questions.

Here are some EXTRA things we do to make
piano lessons super fun and engaging.

Equipped with a digital keyboard, 2 sets of headphones (so a parent can assist with younger students), and an iPad chock full of my favorite music learning apps and videos, our Music Lab station is a hands-down winner among students.

During the self-guided Music Lab session, students can explore:

Music Lab

Music Theory
Ear Training/Listening
Early Childhood music

Rhythm
Creativity
Music History

OK, we all know the ultimate goal in mastering any discipline is to develop intrinsic motivation. We have to be compelled from within to practice hard for the next audition, or it's a one-way ticket to Misery Town.

But kids are just kids, and need a little push in the right direction.

Enter extrinsic motivators, like our
Polished Piece Chart,
Studio-Wide Challenges,
and ever-popular
Music Bucks + Music Store

Oh, what an elementary student won't do for a sticker on a chart or $10 in music bucks to buy a piece of candy!

Rest assured that essential intrinsic motivation will come,
but for now, prizes are lot more FUN:)

Group Lessons

We get together throughout the year to perform for each other, learn together, and play music games.
